A national charitable campaign which helps to provide meals for children during the school holidays has won an award by the Foodservice Packaging Association.
Meals & More, which is run by Brakes, won the CSR Award at the Foodservice Packaging Association Awards. The win recognizes the success of the scheme, which sees Brakes team up with 30 of its suppliers to support 42 holiday clubs in some of the most deprived areas of the UK. The campaign delivered 10,000 nutritious meals in the summer holidays last year to almost 2,000 children, as well as holiday activities.
“We are delighted to receive this award as tackling child poverty is a huge challenge and it is important that we raise this important issue publicly,” said Pem Hulusi, project manager for Meals & More.
“Holiday hunger is a stark symptom of UK child poverty, and without programmes like Meals & More, many families would really struggle over holiday periods. These valuable holiday clubs will not only deliver tasty, nutritious meals but also offer fun activities that teach and encourage healthy lifestyles. They also aim to offer parents and children much-needed social support to tackle isolation and enhance their employment opportunities.”
Brakes’ long-term vision is to help alleviate child poverty with clubs in a local, supportive environment that boost health, attitude and life aspirations for children of all ages from challenging backgrounds.
