Allergy UK has launched a new guide for foodservice caterers to help to reduce the risks for the allergic community when eating out.
A Guide to Food Allergy provides up to date and credible information and aims to educate caterers about the legal requirements regarding serving food to those who live with food allergies. It covers information on the top 14 allergens, provides guidance on where to find training, and expert advice for front of house staff such as what to do when someone experiences a severe allergic reaction.
It is the latest support Allergy UK has brought out to support the catering industry as part of its Allergy Aware Scheme, which was created to help caterers provide peace of mind for allergy sufferers. It aims to provide consumers with confidence when eating out at accredited food establishments and allows responsible catering outlets to show their customers they not only take allergens seriously but offer a high standard service for those with allergies.
Almost half (44%) of allergy sufferers are living in daily fear of a reaction, according to the charity.
