School catering industry honoured at LACA Awards

Members of the school catering industry were praised for their hard work and commitment to the sector last week at the LACA Awards for Excellence.

Held at the Gala Dinner on Thursday 6th July during LACA The Main Event, there were 13 awards, including joint winners for the LACA Chair’s Award, which went to both Andy Kemp from Bidfood and Oakhill Communications, who run the PR for LACA.

Judith Gregory, senior client officer at Cardiff Council, won two awards, the Roger Davis Outstanding Achievement Award and the Change4Life Award with Katie Palmer on behalf of Education Catering, Cardiff Council for their work in providing holiday feeding clubs.

Hertfordshire Catering Limited (HCL) was named Catering Business of the Year. Lin O’Brien, chief executive of HCL, said: “I’m so proud and excited on behalf of everyone in HCL. To be named Catering Business of the Year really is an honour and it wouldn’t have been possible without every member of HCL’s hardworking and dedicated team. This is an outstanding achievement and it demonstrates the calibre, expertise and professionalism we have within our team. Our business is all about excellence in education catering and it’s fantastic that the judges recognised we’re delivering just that.”

Self-Delivered/In House Catering Operation: Mendip Green Primary School
Region of the Year: North East & Scotland
LACA Supplier of the Year: YPO

A charity raffle on the night raised £7,280 which will be shared between Alzheimer’s research UK and Meals & More.

It wasn’t the only awards presented at LACA’s national conference. The Finishing Touches salon culinaire had a number of awards presented during the day, with Best in Show going to Leanne Oliver-Pulford for her novelty cake.
