A team of young aspiring chefs and waiters have won the UK Young Restaurant Team of the Year competition.
The Sheffield College was presented with the award at the Skills for Chefs Awards Dinner on 6th July and have won a study trip to Italy, which will include diner and a behind the scenes tour of Osteria Francescana, the number one restaurant in the world 2016.
“The standard this year was the highest we have seen in the six-year history of the competition,” said Andrew Bennett MBE, chair of the judges. “All teams must be congratulated on the improvements they made following the semi finals that were held earlier this year.”
Celebrated chef Francesco Mazzei, from Satoria and Radici Restaurants in London, was the guest kitchen judge at the grand finals of the competition at the Skills for Chefs conference. The theme of the competition was Italian food and Penwith College in Cornwall won the award for Best Pasta Dish, featuring seafood from Scotland. The college was runner up in the competition and Katie Roberts from the college won the Barista Award.
The award for Best Service went to Loughborough College, and the Ignite for Innovation Award went to North Warwickshire & Hinkley College. Milton Keynes College was also highly praised by the judges for their entry.
