Damian Hinds says he is ‘honoured’ to be the new education secretary.
“This Government has a strong record raising education standards and offering opportunity, particularly to those most in need, through our nurseries, schools, colleges and world-class universities,” he said on his appointment.
“We are here to make sure young people and adults in this country have the chance to make the most of their talents and get on in life.”
The appointment is part of the government’s cabinet reshuffle, which saw Justine Greening moved from her post as education secretary and later resign.
Nick Gibb remains the schools minister and Nadhim Zahawi has been appointed parliamentary under-secretary of state. With the post of children and families minister empty, this could become part of his portfolio.
