Plymouth catering cooperative CATERed has recently supported one of its schools in the run up to the Year 6 SATs with a special after school meal.
Head teacher David Samuels at Mayflower Community Academy School wanted to ensure that pupils in Year 6 were given everything they need to achieve the best possible results, so asked CATERed if they could serve the year group in a different way.
Turning the dining room into a restaurant, the pupils were served their dinner at the table and Samuels emphasised the importance of providing a nutritious homecooked meal to give pupils the right fuel to help them in their attainment. CATERed has been running the service for two weeks and will continue until the SATs are completed.
“When you see the additional care and support given to the children at Mayflower it makes you realise that you can make a difference and as the school tag line reads ‘Together we can’,” sais Anne-Marie Sowden, commercial operations manager at CATERed Limited. “The staff that have helped at the dinner time session have been humbled by the sense of making a real difference to the children attending.”
