Sutton primary school wins Tilda Together competition

A primary school in Sutton has won the Tilda Together 2018 competition, winning a £500 cash prize and a vegetable garden design by horticulturalist and presenter of ITV’s Love Your Garden, Frances Tophill.

Foresters Primary School in Wallington won this year’s competition after catering manager, Terri Phillimore entered the school with her passionate submission on why her school should win. She said: “The students have learnt so much today, to have a nutritionist talk about the goodness of food and Frances create a vegetable garden for them has been brilliant. It’s so important children learn where their food comes from and how it can fuel them, to win all this has been fantastic.”

The school also got to welcome a nutritional talk from dietician and nutritionist, Dr Sarah Schenker, while Tophill taught the children about planting vegetables, as well as learning about rice through games by Karen Goff from Tilda.

Mr. Havard Spring, Headmaster of Foresters Primary School, added: “When Terri told us we won we were very excited and it has been such a good day. Dr. Sarah’s talk about nutrition really made the children think, anything that can support their education is a positive thing. Being a small school and having a celebrity gardener visit us, as well as £500 towards the school garden is fantastic, as we have gardening on the curriculum. It means so much, we’ve really enjoyed our Tilda Together Day with Frances, and you can see the smiles on the pupils’ faces.”
