ISS Food Services and Nottingham Catering were the big winners of the night at last night’s (9th October) EDUcatering Excellence Awards.
ISS Food Services was named Contract Caterer of the Year and Nottingham Catering was named Local Authority Caterer of the Year at the event held at the Royal Garden Hotel in London. The evening celebrated the achievements of the school catering industry in the UK.
Andy Kemp, group sales and marketing director at Bidfood, was given this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award, chosen by EDUcatering Magazine, recognising his dedication to the work of the school food industry and career-long commitment to the wider hospitality and progressing young talent.
Other winners on the night included Derbyshire County Council, winner of the Innovation Award, which is voted for on the night by guests. They were wowed by the council’s Derbyshire School Holiday Food Programme, which last summer provided meals to almost every child entitled to free school meals during term time. Theirs was a landslide victory in the vote.
As well as large catering companies, the EDUcatering Excellence Awards recognises the efforts of cooks working on the front line of school catering. Sara Mitchell from Christ the King Primary School won Primary School Caterer of the Year, while Steven Cross, head chef at Park Community School, won Secondary School Caterer of the Year. Matthew Knight, catering manager at Hillstone Primary, took home the Self-Managed School Caterer of the Year, recognising an in-house catering service.
